When I was kid, I was bullied and suffered from depression. I felt like I didn’t have a voice. Then, when I was 14, I discovered songwriting, and everything changed. Music transformed my life and became a therapy to get me through my darkest times, and helped me find the courage to speak out.
In 2017, I suffered a miscarriage at 11 weeks. Society conditions expecting mothers to be silent about their pregnancies until the 12 week mark. When I lost my baby, I felt like I couldn’t talk to anyone about it. So once again I turned to music to heal. Through songwriting, I started to question society’s ridiculous unwritten rule about keeping quiet about miscarriages, and decided to speak out. To my astonishment, I received over a dozen messages from friends and family who had gone through the same thing. Then, I got messages from complete strangers who said they had suffered silently.
It was in that moment I decided to start Songs Against Silence. Through music, I want to shatter the silence around issues society deems taboo: miscarriage, addiction, depression, bullying, religious rights, and more. Over a 10-day journey, we’re going to look at several hard-hitting topics (and some lighter topics – gotta have some fun, too!) and find ways to break the silence through art, knowledge, and community.
I want to use music to do some good in this world. If you would like to join me on this journey of healing and self discovery, simply sign up below and you’ll immediately start receiving the songs and exclusive content directly to your inbox.
Thank you for taking the time to hear my story.
